A sweet spot is a redemption that costs far less than the program normally charges for the same kind of trip, or far less than other programs charge for the same seat or room. That’s a stricter test than most “best ways to use your points” lists, and plenty of popular redemptions don’t pass it.
Each program below has its own page with the sweet spots that held up when I checked them on the program’s own award chart, calculator, or search, what the same trip cost in cash on a sample date, which bank points transfer there, and the catches. Where a program’s best options are good uses rather than bargains, its page says so and keeps them in a separate list.
