Card benefits change often, and this page may be out of date by the time you read it. Always check the bank’s page and your card’s guide to benefits for the current terms before you rely on a benefit.
The Venture is Capital One’s mid-tier travel card: a $95 annual fee, 2x miles on everything, 5x on hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, and a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit, but no lounge access and no yearly travel credit.
Capital One “miles” are really transferable points like Amex or Chase, and they move to 15+ airline and hotel programs. Below is how the card earns, the current welcome offer (75,000 miles plus a one-time $300 Stays credit), the protections now that new cards are issued on the Discover network, and my verdict compared with the Venture X.
Capital One Venture at a glance
- Annual fee: $95
- Current public offer: 75,000 miles after $4,000 in purchases in the first 3 months, plus a one-time $300 Capital One Travel credit for hotels and vacation rentals in the first year (as of October 14, 2026, per Doctor of Credit)
- Is it the best ever?: Yes, it’s the best Venture offer I’ve tracked: the last one was 75,000 miles plus a $250 travel credit (ended May 2026), and before that 75,000 miles alone. It’s also a better bonus than the Venture X has right now (the same 75,000 miles, without the $300).
- Foreign transaction fee: None
- Best for: Someone who wants a simple 2x-on-everything card that earns transferable miles, and who will use the one-time $300 Stays credit through Capital One Travel in the first year.
- Skip it if: You’d use the Venture X’s $300 yearly travel credit (it makes that card cheaper to keep than this one), or you travel abroad a lot and don’t want a new card on the Discover network.

How it earns
| Category | Rate | Caps and fine print |
|---|---|---|
| Hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars through Capital One Travel | 5x | No cap; flights through the portal earn 2x |
| Capital One Entertainment | 5x | Tickets bought directly through Capital One Hall or Capital One Arena excluded |
| Everything else | 2x | No cap |
Miles can cover travel purchases at 1 cent each, or transfer to 15+ airline and hotel programs, which is usually worth more. Miles don’t expire while the account is open.
Credits and how to use them
The Venture has no yearly travel credit. The $300 below is part of the current welcome offer and only comes once.
| Credit | Amount | How often | Where / how | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Capital One Travel Stays credit (welcome offer) | $300 | One time; expires one year after account opening | Applied at checkout on hotel and vacation rental bookings in Capital One Travel; can be split over several bookings | Portal only, hotels and vacation rentals only (not flights), and portal prices are sometimes higher than booking direct. No miles earned on the credit. |
| Global Entry or TSA PreCheck | Up to $120 | Once every 4 years | Pay the application fee with the card | — |
| Lifestyle Collection experience credit | Up to $50 per stay | Per stay | Lifestyle Collection hotels and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel | Applied by the hotel or host, which sets what qualifies. Breakfast and the $100 Premier Collection credit are Venture X perks, not Venture ones. |
Perks
- No lounge access: Capital One’s Venture page doesn’t list any, and Capital One Lounges and Priority Pass are Venture X perks.
- Hertz Five Star status (Capital One’s footnote calls it the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards status upgrade): you skip the counter and choose from a wider selection of cars. Enroll through the Benefits tab after logging in.
- What’s the Lifestyle Collection? It’s Capital One Travel’s curated list of boutique hotels and vacation rentals. Booking one through the portal gets you up to a $50 experience credit, Wi-Fi, and room upgrades, early check-in and late checkout when available.
- Capital One Travel tools: price prediction, price drop protection, a price match guarantee on flights, hotels and rental cars, and an optional cancel-for-any-reason fee on flights (terms vary by booking).
- Capital One Entertainment access (VIP packages and cardholder pre-sales), and 50% off handcrafted drinks at Capital One Cafés.
- Since February 2026 new Venture cards are issued on the Discover network rather than Visa. Discover is widely accepted in the U.S. but less so abroad, which matters on a card whose main selling point is no foreign transaction fees.
Insurance and protections
Green highlights mark where this card is at the top of the cards I review.
| Benefit | What the bank says |
|---|---|
| Auto rental collision damage waiver | Up to the car’s actual cash value on rentals of up to 31 days; secondary if you have your own auto insurance, primary if you don’t and outside your country of residence |
| Trip cancellation / interruption | Up to $1,500 per person for nonrefundable common carrier tickets (death, injury or illness of you or a family member, or the carrier going bankrupt) One-way and award tickets: Award tickets: only if the whole trip is covered: the guide requires the entire cost charged to the card or paid with Capital One rewards, so miles-paid trips count, but paying just the taxes on another program’s award may not. It doesn’t require a round trip. |
| Trip delay | None listed One-way and award tickets: Not applicable: the card doesn’t have trip delay coverage. |
| Baggage delay | Top tier: up to $100 a day for up to 3 days after a delay of more than 4 hours (4 hours ties for the shortest wait of the cards I review; Chase’s versions need 6) One-way and award tickets: Yes to both: the guide covers trips where a portion or the entire cost is charged to the card or paid with its rewards, so award taxes on the card count, and it doesn’t require a round trip. |
| Lost luggage | Up to $3,000 per trip ($2,000 per bag for New York residents), on trips of 5 to 60 days One-way and award tickets: Yes to both, same rule as baggage delay. Note the trip has to be at least 5 days long. |
| Travel accident insurance | Up to $1,000,000 when the entire fare is charged to the card |
| Purchase security | Theft or damage within 90 days, up to $1,000 per claim and $25,000 per 12 months (pays after other insurance) |
| Price protection | Top tier: if you find a lower advertised price within 120 days, up to $250 per item and $1,000 a year (no other card I review lists this) |
| Extended warranty | Doubles warranties of 2 years or less, adding up to 1 year; up to $10,000 per claim |
| Cell phone protection | None |
Capital One’s card page only lists travel accident insurance, rental car coverage and extended warranty, and says benefits vary by product. The amounts above come from Capital One’s Discover-network guide to benefits (effective February 1, 2026), which lists the Venture and applies to new cards. If you have an older Venture Visa, your Visa Signature guide applies until your card is replaced, so check which network your card says.
For how this compares with other cards, see my card travel benefits comparison.
Transfer partners
Miles transfer to 15+ airline and hotel programs. Ratios and transfer times for each partner are in my transfer partners guide.
Application rules for this card
- The bonus isn’t available if you’ve received a new cardmember bonus on the Venture or the Venture X in the last 48 months (Capital One’s card page wording), so the two count as one family for this.
- Capital One usually lets you hold at most 2 personal Capital One cards, and generally approves one new card every 6 months.
- Capital One pulls all three credit bureaus for every application. Some people freeze one or two bureaus first so fewer reports take the inquiry, but that can get you denied, so it’s a judgment call (details).
The full rules for every bank are in my credit card application rules guide.
My take
Simple 2x on everything, miles that erase travel at 1¢ or transfer to airlines, and right now a $300 hotel credit on top of the bonus. For year one that’s a strong offer for a $95 card, as long as you’d book at least one hotel or vacation rental through Capital One Travel in the first year.
After year one, though, it’s a plain 2x card with a $95 fee. There are no easy yearly credits to take off the fee, so the real fee stays at $95 (the Global Entry credit is worth about $30 a year if you’d pay for it anyway). The Venture X costs $395, but its $300 travel credit and 10,000 anniversary miles bring it to roughly zero in my eyes, which makes it the cheaper card to keep if you’ll use the portal.
I don’t ever recommend erasing travel purchases at 1¢ (transfers are worth more), but it’s a nice fallback to have.
Capital One is picky on approvals even with great credit, and new cards now come on the Discover network, so I’d check acceptance before relying on it as your only card abroad.
The catch
No lounge access, no yearly travel credit and no anniversary miles, so after year one you’re paying $95 for 2x and the transfers. The $300 Stays credit only works on hotels and vacation rentals in Capital One Travel, whose prices are sometimes higher than booking direct, and it expires one year after you open the account.
The move to the Discover network gives new cards decent insurance (shorter baggage delay wait than most, plus price protection), but no trip delay coverage, and Discover acceptance abroad is spottier than Visa’s. Capital One approvals are unpredictable even with excellent credit, and the bank pulls all three bureaus.
Keep it after year one?
The fee to me is $95 minus no easy yearly credits, so $95 a year for 2x on everything and transferable miles. That’s reasonable if you value the miles at more than a cent each, but if you qualify for the Venture X and would use its $300 travel credit, that one is the better long-term hold. If the $95 stops making sense, ask Capital One to move you to the no-fee VentureOne so you keep the account history (and the miles) instead of closing it.

Quick Answers
$95 a year as of October 2026, and it isn’t waived the first year.
As of October 14, 2026 the public offer is 75,000 miles after $4,000 in purchases in the first 3 months, plus a one-time $300 Capital One Travel credit for hotels and vacation rentals that expires one year after account opening.
No. On the Venture it’s a one-time welcome-offer credit. The Venture X is the card with a $300 Capital One Travel credit every year.
New Venture cards are being issued on the Discover network (Capital One’s Discover guide to benefits lists the Venture from February 1, 2026). Existing Visa cards stay Visa until they’re replaced, so check the logo on your card.
No. Lounge access (Capital One Lounges and Priority Pass) is on the Venture X, not the Venture.
