The Venture X is Capital One’s premium travel card: a $395 annual fee, a $300 yearly Capital One Travel credit, 10,000 bonus miles every anniversary, 2x on everything, and Capital One and Priority Pass lounges for the primary cardholder.
Capital One “miles” are really transferable points like Amex or Chase, and they move to 15+ airline and hotel programs. Below is how the card earns, what each credit takes, the lounge rules that changed in February 2026, the protections, and my verdict.
Venture X at a glance
- Annual fee: $395
- Current public offer: 75,000 miles after $4,000 in purchases in the first 3 months (as of October 14, 2026, per Frequent Miler)
- Is it the best ever?: No. It has been 100,000 miles (after $10,000 in 6 months, in 2023). The regular Venture currently offers the same 75,000 miles plus a $300 travel credit for a $95 fee.
- Foreign transaction fee: None
- Best for: Travelers who’ll book at least $300 a year through Capital One Travel and want lounge access for themselves on a card that’s cheap to keep.
- Skip it if: You travel with family and want them in the lounge for free (guests now cost $45), or you won’t use Capital One Travel.

Credits and how to use them
Can the $300 travel credit be stacked with the Premier and Lifestyle Collection hotel perks? Yes. The credit can be applied at checkout on a Premier or Lifestyle Collection booking, and the hotel perks still come with the stay (Thrifty Traveler confirms the credit works on Premier Collection bookings, and The Points Guy used it on a Lifestyle Collection hotel in 2026 and still got the $50 experience credit).
| Credit | Amount | How often | Where / how | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Capital One Travel credit | $300 | Each account year | Applied at checkout on Capital One Travel; can be split over several bookings | Portal only, and portal prices are sometimes higher than booking direct. Expires on your account anniversary; no miles earned on the credit. It does stack with the Premier and Lifestyle Collection perks below. |
| Anniversary bonus | 10,000 miles | Every anniversary, starting with the first | Automatic | Capital One values them at $100 toward travel. |
| Global Entry or TSA PreCheck | Up to $120 | Once every 4 years | Pay the application fee with the card | — |
| Premier Collection hotel credit | Up to $100 per stay | Per stay | Premier Collection hotels and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel | Must be charged to the room; hotels set what qualifies. Stacks with the $300 travel credit: you can pay for the stay with the credit and still get the $100 credit and daily breakfast for two. |
| Lifestyle Collection hotel credit | Up to $50 per stay | Per stay | Lifestyle Collection hotels and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel | Stacks with the $300 travel credit the same way. |
Lounges and other perks
- Capital One Lounges and Capital One Landings for the primary cardholder (physical card or digital lounge pass; subject to space).
- What’s a Landing? Capital One Landings are restaurant-style spaces rather than traditional lounges: you’re seated at a table, order tapas-style small plates (a José Andrés menu) and drinks by QR code, and it’s all included with no tipping expected. There are two so far, at Washington National (DCA, opened November 2024) and New York LaGuardia (LGA Terminal B, opened February 2026).
- Priority Pass membership for the primary cardholder, 1,300+ lounges (enrollment required).
- Since February 1, 2026 guests are no longer free: $45 per adult and $25 per child (2–17) at Capital One Lounges and Landings, and $35 per guest at Priority Pass lounges. Spending $75,000 in a calendar year unlocks 2 free guests at Capital One Lounges and 1 at Landings for the rest of that year and the next.
- Authorized users no longer get free lounge access; the primary can add it for $125 a year per cardholder. Adding an authorized user without lounge access is free.
- Premier Collection stays also include daily breakfast for two (hotels), Wi-Fi, and upgrades, early check-in and late checkout when available.
- Hertz President’s Circle status (enroll through the Benefits tab).
- Capital One Entertainment pre-sales, and 50% off The Cultivist Enthusiast membership for up to 2 years.
Insurance and protections
Green highlights mark where this card is at the top of the cards I review.
| Benefit | What the bank says |
|---|---|
| Auto rental collision damage waiver | Top tier: primary coverage, which most cards don’t offer, per the Visa Infinite guide to benefits (the card page doesn’t say primary or secondary), so you don’t have to claim on your own insurance first |
| Trip delay | Top tier: up to $500 per ticket after a delay of more than 6 hours or an overnight stay (6 hours is the shortest wait of the cards I review) One-way and award tickets: Yes to both: Visa’s terms cover a portion or the entire fare charged to the card or paid with its rewards, so award taxes on the card count, and they don’t require a round trip. |
| Trip cancellation / interruption | Up to $2,000 per person per the Visa Infinite guide One-way and award tickets: Award tickets usually don’t count: this one requires the entire cost of the trip on the card, so paying only the taxes doesn’t qualify (per The Points Guy). |
| Baggage delay | None listed |
| Cell phone protection | Up to $800 when you pay your phone bill with the card ($50 deductible per the Visa Infinite guide) |
| Travel accident insurance | When the fare is charged to the card |
| Extended warranty and return protection | On eligible purchases (90-day return protection) |
Capital One’s card page lists cell phone protection but points to the Visa Infinite guide for the travel coverages, so those amounts come from Visa’s terms (trip delay terms effective April 1, 2017) rather than the card page.
For how this compares with other cards, see my card travel benefits comparison.
Transfer partners
Miles transfer to 15+ airline and hotel programs. Ratios and transfer times for each partner are in my transfer partners guide.
Application rules for this card
- The bonus isn’t available if you’ve received a bonus on the Venture X in the last 48 months, and Capital One treats the Venture family (Venture, VentureOne, Venture X) as one group for this.
- Capital One usually lets you hold at most 2 personal Capital One cards, and generally approves one new card every 6 months.
- Capital One pulls all three credit bureaus for every application. Some people freeze one or two bureaus first so fewer reports take the inquiry, but that can get you denied, so it’s a judgment call (details).
The full rules for every bank are in my credit card application rules guide.
My take
A $395 fee, but the $300 Capital One Travel credit and the 10,000 anniversary miles (worth $100 toward travel) bring it to roughly zero in my eyes, as long as you’d book at least $300 a year through Capital One Travel anyway. If you wouldn’t, it’s a $395 card with lounge access and not much else you can’t get on the $95 Venture.
Worse bonus than the regular Venture right now (the same 75,000 miles, but without the $300 hotel credit) and a higher fee. Get it only if you want the lounge access and will use the travel credit every year.
I don’t ever recommend erasing travel purchases at 1¢ (transfers are worth more), but it’s a nice fallback to have.
In any case, I personally would hate to sign up at 75,000 miles when 100,000 was available in the past.
The catch
The $300 credit only works through Capital One Travel, whose prices are sometimes higher than booking direct, and it’s a use-it-or-lose-it credit each year.
The lounge benefit was gutted for families on February 1, 2026: guests now cost $45 at Capital One Lounges and $35 at Priority Pass lounges, and authorized users no longer get free access. The current 75,000-mile bonus is well below the 100,000 it has offered before, so if you’re not in a hurry this is a card to wait on.
Capital One, like other banks with use-it-or-lose-it credits, is counting on some people forgetting to use it.
Keep it after year one?
The fee to me is $395 minus the $300 travel credit minus 10,000 miles (about $100), which is roughly nothing. If you’ll actually use the credit every year, it’s one of the easiest premium cards to keep, and lounge access for you is free on top. If booking through the portal would be a stretch, ask Capital One to move you to the $95 Venture or the no-fee VentureOne instead of paying for perks you don’t use.

Quick Answers
$395 a year as of October 2026. The $300 Capital One Travel credit and the 10,000 anniversary miles offset most of it if you use them.
As of October 14, 2026 the public offer is 75,000 miles after $4,000 in purchases in the first 3 months. It has been as high as 100,000 miles.
Not for free since February 1, 2026. Guests cost $45 per adult and $25 per child at Capital One Lounges and Landings, and $35 at Priority Pass lounges, unless you spend $75,000 in a calendar year.
No. It only applies to bookings made through Capital One Travel, and each year’s credit expires on your account anniversary.
Yes. The credit can be applied at checkout on Premier Collection and Lifestyle Collection bookings in Capital One Travel, and the stay still comes with that collection’s perks, such as the $100 experience credit and breakfast for two at Premier Collection hotels.
