The Marriott Bonvoy Bold is Chase’s no-annual-fee Marriott card: automatic Silver Elite status, 5 Elite Night Credits a year, 3x at Marriott hotels, 2x on groceries, phone and internet, streaming and food delivery, and no foreign transaction fee.
There’s no anniversary free night, so it’s mostly a card for people who want Marriott status and a no-fee place to land after the $95 Boundless. Below is how it earns, what Pay Yourself Back is really worth, the protections (better than you’d expect for a free card), the Chase and Amex Marriott rules, and my verdict.
Marriott Bold (no fee) at a glance
- Annual fee: $0
- Current public offer: 45,000 points after $1,000 in purchases in the first 3 months (as of October 14, 2026, per Frequent Miler)
- Is it the best ever?: No. It has offered 60,000 points plus a free night (after $2,000 in spending), most recently until May 2026 per Doctor of Credit.
- Foreign transaction fee: None
- Best for: Marriott guests who want Silver status for free, and Boundless holders who no longer want to pay $95.
- Skip it if: You’d be spending one of your 5/24 slots on it: a 45,000-point bonus isn’t worth that for most people, and the no-fee Bold is easy to get later by downgrading a Boundless.

How it earns
| Category | Rate | Caps and fine print |
|---|---|---|
| Marriott Bonvoy hotels | 3x | Plus up to 10x as a Marriott Bonvoy member and up to 1x for Silver Elite, for up to 14x total. |
| Grocery stores | 2x | — |
| Internet, cable and phone services | 2x | — |
| Select streaming services | 2x | — |
| Taxis and limousines | 2x | Chase lists this as its “rideshare” category. |
| Food delivery ordered directly | 2x | DoorDash, Caviar, Uber Eats, Postmates, Grubhub, Seamless and Delivery.com, through their own sites or apps. |
| Everything else | 1x | Including restaurants and other travel. |
Points go to your Marriott Bonvoy account after each billing cycle and don’t expire as long as you have card purchases or other qualifying Marriott activity at least every 24 months. Restaurants earn only 1x on this card.
Credits and how to use them
There’s no travel credit or free night on the Bold. These are the extras.
| Credit | Amount | How often | Where / how | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DashPass membership | 12 months free | Once | Activate by 12/31/2027 with the card as your DoorDash payment method | After 12 months you’re automatically enrolled at the then-current monthly rate until you cancel. |
| DoorDash promo (non-restaurant) | $10 off one order a quarter | Each calendar quarter | One grocery, convenience or other non-restaurant order, while enrolled in DashPass | Restaurant orders don’t qualify, and it doesn’t roll over. Through 12/31/2027. |
Status and other perks
- Silver Elite status every year you have the card. Silver is Marriott’s first elite tier: 10% more points on stays and priority late checkout when available, per Chase’s page.
- 5 Elite Night Credits each calendar year, deposited by March 1. That’s a small head start toward Gold (25 nights); the Boundless gives 15.
- Pay Yourself Back: you can redeem Marriott points as a statement credit against direct airline tickets and Marriott hotel charges on the card, up to $750 a year. The rate is $100 for 12,500 points (0.8 cents each), which is usually less than you’d get booking a Marriott award night, so I’d only use it to clear a small leftover balance.
- Visa Signature Concierge, 24 hours a day. Chase notes it may approve some applicants for a Visa Platinum version with different benefits instead.
- No lounge access; no foreign transaction fees.
Insurance and protections
Green highlights mark where this card is at the top of the cards I review.
| Benefit | What the bank says |
|---|---|
| Trip delay | Up to $500 per covered traveler after a delay of more than 12 hours or an overnight stay One-way and award tickets: Yes to both: the guide covers a round-trip or one-way common carrier fare charged all or in part to the card (or paid with its rewards), so an award ticket with the taxes on the card counts. |
| Baggage delay | Top tier: up to $100 a day for up to 5 days after a 6-hour delay, on a no-fee card (most cards with this cap it at 3 days, including several with annual fees) One-way and award tickets: Yes to both, same payment rule as trip delay. |
| Lost luggage | Up to $3,000 per covered traveler (New York residents: $2,000 per bag, $10,000 per trip) One-way and award tickets: Yes to both, same payment rule as trip delay. |
| Trip cancellation / interruption | None listed One-way and award tickets: Not covered on this card. |
| Purchase protection | 120 days, up to $500 per item (90 days for New York residents) |
| Auto rental collision damage waiver | Not listed on the card page. The Chase Visa Signature guide the page links includes secondary coverage in the U.S. (primary abroad) up to $60,000, so check the guide Chase sends you before relying on it. |
Coverage rules for one-way and award tickets come from the Chase Guide to Benefits for Visa Signature cards that the Bold page links (effective 10/01/24); it’s a shared guide, so confirm in the one you receive.

Application rules for this card
- You can’t get this card if you currently have, or got a bonus in the last 24 months on, any Chase Marriott personal card: the Bold, the Boundless, or the older Marriott Rewards Premier and Premier Plus cards (per the card page).
- Amex Marriott cards also matter. Per Chase’s page, you won’t get the bonus if you have or had the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card (the old personal Amex) in the last 30 days, if you were approved for the Amex Marriott Bonvoy Business, Brilliant or Bevy in the last 90 days, or if you got a bonus or upgrade bonus on one of those in the last 24 months. Amex’s terms work the same way in reverse (Amex rules).
- Chase’s 5/24 rule applies: you’ll be denied if you’ve opened 5 or more personal cards from any bank in the last 24 months.
The full rules for every bank are in my credit card application rules guide.
My take
There’s no fee, so the fee math is $0, and Silver status plus 5 night credits is a nice free extra for a Marriott guest. The insurance is better than you’d expect on a no-fee card, with 5-day baggage delay and trip delay.
But 45,000 Marriott points is a small bonus (often one night at a mid-range hotel), and it costs a 5/24 slot like any Chase card. I’d only apply directly if you’re well under 5/24 and want Marriott status; otherwise, get the Boundless for its bigger bonus and downgrade to the Bold later if you don’t want to pay $95.
In any case, I personally would hate to sign up at 45,000 points when 60,000 plus a free night was available as recently as spring 2026.
The catch
There’s no anniversary free night, restaurants earn only 1x, and Pay Yourself Back values points at just 0.8 cents. The rental car coverage isn’t listed on the page, and there’s no trip cancellation coverage.
The Chase/Amex Marriott rules apply here too: one Amex Marriott bonus in the last 24 months, or an Amex Marriott approval in the last 90 days, means no bonus.
The DoorDash promo is truly bad unless you already order groceries through DoorDash; Chase, like other banks, hopes that you forget to use it.
Keep it after year one?
There’s no annual fee, so the fee math is $0 and I’d keep it for the Silver status and the age of the account. If you later want the anniversary night, you’d need the $95 Boundless, and Chase’s rules mean you can’t hold both at once.
Offer history

Quick Answers
No. It has no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees as of October 2026.
As of October 14, 2026 the offer is 45,000 points after $1,000 in purchases in the first 3 months. It has been 60,000 points plus a free night in the past.
No. The anniversary free night (up to 35,000 points) is on the $95 Boundless, not the Bold.
No. Chase’s page says the Bold isn’t available if you currently have the Boundless (or another Chase Marriott personal card), or got one’s bonus in the last 24 months.
Usually not. It redeems points at 0.8 cents each ($100 per 12,500 points) toward direct airline tickets and Marriott charges, up to $750 a year, which is generally less than using the points for a Marriott award night.
