The AAdvantage Executive is Citi’s premium American Airlines card, renamed the Executive World Legend in August 2026: a $695 annual fee, a full Admirals Club membership with guests, free checked bags for up to 8 companions, and a set of credits for AA Vacations, Lyft, Avis and inflight purchases.
The August 23, 2026 refresh raised the fee by $100 and added credits and up to 40,000 bonus Loyalty Points a year. Below is what each credit takes, the lounge rules, the protections, the 48-month bonus rule, and my verdict.
Citi AA Executive at a glance
- Annual fee: $695; $175 a year for up to 3 authorized users, then $175 for each additional one
- Current public offer: 125,000 AAdvantage miles after $15,000 in purchases in the first 5 months (as of October 14, 2026, per Doctor of Credit)
- Is it the best ever?: Yes in miles: Doctor of Credit calls 125,000 the highest ever. The spend is higher, though: the previous 100,000 offer needed $10,000, so some people will prefer to wait for that.
- Foreign transaction fee: None
- Best for: People who fly American often enough that they’d otherwise pay for an Admirals Club membership, and families who check bags together.
- Skip it if: You wouldn’t pay for Admirals Club on your own; the $350 Globe or $99 Platinum Select cover the bags for much less.

How it earns
| Category | Rate | Caps and fine print |
|---|---|---|
| Eligible American Airlines purchases | 4x | 5x for the rest of the calendar year after $150,000 in purchases |
| AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars bookings | 12x | American’s own booking sites, not a Citi portal |
| Everything else | 1x | Including dining, groceries, gas and other airlines |
Every mile earned from purchases also earns 1 Loyalty Point toward AAdvantage status, plus 10,000 bonus Loyalty Points at each of 50,000, 90,000, 165,000 and 240,000 Loyalty Points in a status year. AAdvantage miles don’t transfer anywhere.
Credits and how to use them
Citi markets the card as up to $2,300 in value, most of it the Admirals Club membership. Here’s what each credit takes.
| Credit | Amount | How often | Where / how | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Inflight and Admirals Club purchases | Up to $100 | Calendar year | Inflight purchases and eligible Admirals Club purchases paid with the card | The easy one if you fly American a few times a year. |
| Avis/Budget credit | Up to $120 | Calendar year | Eligible prepaid rentals booked directly on avis.com or budget.com | Prepaid rates are usually non-refundable, and booking direct means skipping cheaper rates elsewhere. |
| AA Vacations credit | $250 + $250 | January–June and July–December | AA Vacations travel packages or Experiences bought at aavacations.com | Packages are often pricier than booking the pieces separately; Experiences (tours and activities) are the easier way to use it. |
| Lyft credit | $15 a month, up to $180 a year | Monthly | Take 3 eligible Lyft rides in a calendar month | Three rides every month is a lot for most people outside a big city. |
| Global Entry or TSA PreCheck | Up to $120 | Once every 4 years | Pay the application fee with the card | — |
| Omni Free Night Award | One night | Calendar year | Enroll in Omni Champion status, then complete a stay of 2+ consecutive nights booked directly at omnihotels.com | You have to pay for a 2-night Omni stay first. |
Lounges and other perks
- Admirals Club membership for the primary cardholder: unlimited visits to 100+ Admirals Club and partner lounges for you and up to 2 guests or immediate family. Citi says it’s the only card with Admirals Club membership.
- Authorized users 18 or older get their own Admirals Club access (but not reciprocal partner-airline lounges), which is why they cost $175 a year for up to three.
- First checked bag free on domestic American itineraries for you and up to 8 companions on the same reservation, plus priority check-in, airport screening (where available) and boarding (per One Mile at a Time).
- Omni Hotels Champion status (enrollment required): early check-in, late checkout and upgrades when available.
- Avis President’s Club status, available to enroll through August 31, 2028 (per One Mile at a Time; not on Citi’s page).
- Mastercard World Legend benefits and Citi Entertainment presales. The Grubhub credit and 25% inflight savings were removed in the August 2026 refresh.
Insurance and protections
| Benefit | What the bank says |
|---|---|
| Trip delay | Up to $500 per covered traveler per trip after a delay of at least 6 hours, 2 claims per year One-way and award tickets: Yes to both: the guide only requires the card and/or AAdvantage miles to pay for at least a portion of the fare, so an AA award with the taxes on the card counts, and unlike Citi’s Strata cards there’s no round-trip requirement (per NerdWallet). |
| Trip cancellation / interruption | Up to $5,000 per trip (common carrier) One-way and award tickets: Award tickets count when you use AAdvantage miles and/or the card for at least part of the trip, but Citi reimburses only up to what you paid with the card; one-ways aren’t excluded. |
| Lost or damaged luggage | Up to $3,000 per traveler and $10,000 per trip ($2,000 per bag for New York residents) One-way and award tickets: Same rule as trip delay: one-ways and AA awards with the taxes on the card count. |
| Baggage delay | None listed |
| MasterRental car rental coverage | Up to $75,000; secondary in the U.S. and primary abroad, for rentals of up to 31 days |
Citi’s card page lists these protections by name only. The limits and the award and one-way rules come from Citi’s AAdvantage Executive guide to benefits (effective July 23, 2023) and NerdWallet’s Citi insurance guide (August 6, 2026); One Mile at a Time reports the protections were unchanged in the August 2026 refresh.

Application rules for this card
- The bonus isn’t available if you’ve received an Executive bonus in the last 48 months, or converted another Citi card that earned a bonus in the last 48 months into an Executive. Each AAdvantage card has its own clock, and the AAdvantage cards weren’t moved to the Strata cards’ once-per-lifetime rule.
- Citi’s velocity rules apply: generally 1 Citi application every 8 days and no more than 2 in 65 days (Citi rules).
The full rules for every bank are in my credit card application rules guide.
My take
$695, and only the $100 inflight and Admirals Club credit is easy, so the real fee is about $595 in my eyes. That’s the price of the Admirals Club membership, which is the whole point of this card; the AA Vacations, Lyft and Avis credits are there to make it feel cheaper.
If you’d otherwise pay for an Admirals Club membership, it’s a good deal, especially since authorized users get lounge access and the trip protections are better than on Citi’s Strata cards (one-ways and AA awards count). The 125,000-mile bonus is the highest it has been, but it needs $15,000 of spend.
The catch
$695 and a $15,000 spend requirement. Earning is 1x on everything except American and AA’s hotel and car sites, so it’s a poor everyday card. Authorized users cost $175 a year for up to three.
The AA Vacations credit needs a package or Experience booked through AA, the Lyft credit needs three rides a month, the Avis credit needs a prepaid direct booking, and the Omni night needs a paid 2-night stay first.
Those credits are only worth something if you already spend there. Citi, like other banks with hard-to-use credits, counts on people forgetting to use them.
Keep it after year one?
The fee to me is $695 minus the easy $100 inflight credit, which is $595. Keep it only if you’d otherwise pay for an Admirals Club membership, or if the authorized-user lounge access saves you a second membership. If not, ask Citi to move you to the AAdvantage Globe or Platinum Select before the fee posts; Executive cardholders have been offered other AAdvantage cards on product change requests (Frequent Miler, February 2026).

Quick Answers
$695 a year since the August 23, 2026 refresh (it was $595), plus $175 for up to 3 authorized users.
As of October 14, 2026 the offer is 125,000 AAdvantage miles after $15,000 in purchases in the first 5 months.
Yes. Authorized users 18 or older get Admirals Club access (not full membership and not partner-airline lounges).
Yes, if you pay at least part of the fare (such as the taxes) with the card or use AAdvantage miles, and it doesn’t require a round trip.
The fee went up to $695 and the card added a $500 AA Vacations credit, a bigger Lyft credit, a $100 inflight credit, more bonus Loyalty Points, 12x on AAdvantage Hotels and Cars, Omni status and Avis President’s Club. The Grubhub credit and 25% inflight savings were removed.
