The Chase Air Canada Aeroplan Card was refreshed on September 10, 2026: the fee went from $95 to $195, and in exchange you now get Aeroplan 25K status automatically, 3x on all travel, a $100 Air Canada credit, a Global Entry credit and a free first checked bag on Air Canada for you and up to eight others.
Aeroplan points are some of the most useful airline points for booking Star Alliance business class, and the card earns them directly. Below is how it earns, what each credit and perk takes, the protections in Chase’s own numbers, and my verdict on whether it’s worth $195.
Chase Aeroplan at a glance
- Annual fee: $195
- Current public offer: 75,000 points after $4,000 in purchases in the first 3 months, plus 40,000 more after $20,000 in purchases in the first 12 months (as of October 14, 2026, per Frequent Miler)
- Is it the best ever?: On total points, yes: 115,000 is the most I’ve seen. But the second part needs $20,000 of spend, and for most people the 85,000 after just $4,000 (until May 2026) was the better deal.
- Foreign transaction fee: None
- Best for: People who fly Air Canada at least once or twice a year, check bags or travel as a group, and want Aeroplan points for Star Alliance business class awards.
- Skip it if: You never fly Air Canada. The $100 credit, the bags, the status and the 15% discount all only work on Air Canada, and you can get Aeroplan points by transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards instead.

| All other travel | 3x | — |
| Grocery stores | 3x | Through 12/31/2026, then 2x. |
| Dining | 3x | Includes takeout and eligible delivery. Through 12/31/2026, then 2x. |
| Gas stations | 2x | — |
| Everything else | 1x | — |
| Monthly spend bonus | 500 points per $2,000 | Up to $6,000 a month (1,500 bonus points), through 12/31/2026 only. |
Points move to your Aeroplan account after each billing cycle and don’t expire while the account is open. Pay Yourself Back lets you redeem Aeroplan points against card purchases from the last 90 days, but Chase doesn’t publish a fixed rate, so in my eyes the points are better used on Air Canada and Star Alliance awards.
Credits and how to use them
The $100 Air Canada credit is the only yearly credit, and it’s easy if you buy at least one Air Canada ticket in each half of the year.
| Credit | Amount | How often | Where / how | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Air Canada credit | $50 + $50 | January–June and July–December | Automatic statement credit on purchases made directly with Air Canada | Same exclusions as the 3x (no gift cards, hotels, car rentals, onboard Wi-Fi or agency tickets). Unused half-year credit is lost. |
| Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or NEXUS | Up to $120 | Once every 4 years | Pay the application fee with the card | — |
Aeroplan status and other perks
- Aeroplan 25K status from the day you open the card, kept as long as it’s open: priority check-in, priority boarding and eUpgrade credits you can use toward Premium Economy or Business upgrades on Air Canada, plus 2 extra points per dollar on Air Canada flights. 25K is Air Canada’s entry status (Star Alliance Silver), so it doesn’t come with lounge access.
- Status Qualifying Credits: 5,000 SQC a year automatically, 10,000 more at $25,000 and another 10,000 at $50,000 in calendar-year spend (capped at 25,000 SQC a year across Aeroplan cards). Spending $75,000 in a calendar year gets you Aeroplan 35K status for the rest of that year and the next.
- Free first checked bag (up to 50 lb) for you and up to 8 others on the same reservation, on Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge and Air Canada Express flights. Top tier: up to 9 travelers ties the American Airlines and Southwest cards for the most of any card I review (the United cards cover one companion). You have to check in with Air Canada at the counter; it doesn’t work if you check in with a partner airline.
- Preferred pricing: at least 15% fewer points on the base fare of Air Canada-operated award flights booked on aircanada.com, the app or by phone, while logged in with the card linked. Taxes, fees and partner flights aren’t discounted.
- Ultimate Rewards transfer bonus: through 12/31/2026, transfers of 50,000 or more Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Aeroplan get a 10% bonus, up to 25,000 bonus points a year.
- 4th night (or day) free on hotels and car rentals booked only with points through Aeroplan’s hotel and car site (CX Loyalty).
- Big-spender extras: Priority Rewards vouchers (50% off one award’s base fare) at $100,000+ a year and a Global +1 companion benefit at $1,000,000 a year.
- World Elite Mastercard Concierge.
Insurance and protections
| Benefit | What the bank says |
|---|---|
| Auto rental collision damage waiver | Up to $60,000 for theft and collision; secondary to your own insurance in the U.S., primary outside the U.S. |
| Trip cancellation / interruption | Up to $1,500 per covered traveler and $6,000 per trip for prepaid, non-refundable fares One-way and award tickets: Yes to both: the guide’s trip definition covers round-trip or one-way fares paid all or in part with the card or with the card’s rewards, so an Aeroplan award with the taxes on the card counts, and rewards are reimbursed in dollars. |
| Trip delay | Up to $500 per covered traveler after a delay of more than 12 hours or an overnight stay One-way and award tickets: Yes to both, same trip definition as trip cancellation. |
| Baggage delay | Up to $100 a day for up to 3 days after a 6-hour delay One-way and award tickets: Yes to both, same trip definition. |
| Lost luggage | None listed |
| Purchase protection | 120 days, up to $500 per item (90 days for New York residents) |
| Roadside assistance | Pay-per-use dispatch in the U.S. and Canada (you pay for the service) |
The refreshed card page doesn’t list insurance amounts, so these come from Chase’s Aeroplan product page and its World Elite Mastercard Guide to Benefits (effective 10/01/24). Claims always need receipts and the carrier’s delay confirmation.

Application rules for this card
- The card isn’t available if you have it now, or if you received a new cardmember bonus on this card in the last 24 months (Chase’s offer terms).
- Chase’s 5/24 rule applies: you’ll be denied if you’ve opened 5 or more personal cards from any bank in the last 24 months.
- Existing cardmembers on the old $95 fee start paying $195 at renewals from December 1, 2026.
The full rules for every bank are in my credit card application rules guide.
My take
A $195 fee, but the $100 Air Canada credit is easy if you buy an Air Canada ticket in each half of the year, making it more like $95 in my eyes, which is what the card cost before the refresh. For that you get 25K status, free bags for your whole group and 15% off Air Canada awards.
The welcome bonus is the main reason to get it. Aeroplan points are excellent for Star Alliance business class, but you can also get them by transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points 1:1, so the card itself only makes sense to keep if you fly Air Canada.
In any case, I personally would hate to sign up at 75,000 points up front when 85,000 was available after the same $4,000 in spend earlier this year.
The catch
Almost everything is Air Canada-only: the credit, the bags, the 15% discount and most of the status perks. If you live in the U.S. and rarely fly Air Canada, you’re paying $195 for points you could get from Ultimate Rewards.
The 3x on grocery and dining drops to 2x on January 1, 2027, and the monthly 500-point bonus ends December 31, 2026, so the everyday earning gets weaker next year. Rental car coverage is secondary in the U.S., and there’s no lost luggage coverage.
Keep it after year one?
The fee to me is $195 minus the $100 Air Canada credit, which equals $95 if you fly Air Canada twice a year. Keep it if you fly Air Canada a few times a year with checked bags or a group, where the free bags alone cover the fee. If you don’t, I would cancel or ask Chase what it can move you to before the next renewal, since the bonus is the real value here.
